In the early 1970s, Eric, Heidi, and Shaun smuggle Bibles with their parents in Eastern Europe, unaware of their father's secrets. Later, they traverse two continents to live in India.

When the Wilson children return to the States, they believe they have finally found home. Instead, they face sexual abuse, religious dogma, and family betrayal. As everything falls apart, they must find a path toward forgiveness, or be doomed to repeat their parents' mistakes.
